2017 Jamaica Immersion in Montego Bay
July 6 – July 12

Come with us to Jamaica in June for a mission immersion experience that you will not forget!  Learn about the Jamaican people, the church in Jamaica and explore how we are linked to the Jamaican people in the bonds of global solidarity.  Although the number of Catholics in Montego Bay is small, their evangelization efforts are making a huge impact. Join their E-Team (Evangelization Team) for an exciting week of mission experiences. 

This Immersion trip includes:

– Pre-trip orientation

– On-site introduction to the cultural, economic, and political realities of Jamaica by Jamaican leaders

– Introduction to the current realities and context of mission in Jamaica and around the world

– Daily communal prayer, liturgies and theological reflection

– A look at the ministries of the Catholic Church in Jamaica, including tours of the church sponsored ministries, such as the Diocesan Clinic and Hope Hospice for AIDS patients.

– Visit to orphanages for disabled children

– Visits to tourist and cultural sites 

– Post-trip debriefing and reflection

– Credits for Continuing Education

Trip Details

– Room, meals, and in-country transportation: $825 single, $1350 for a couple

– Participants are responsible for air travel to and from Mongtego Bay (estimated $500)

– Passport required. Please note that a passport card is not acceptable for air travel. (Visa not required) 

2017 El Salvador Immersion
September 7 – September 13

Join us for a mission immersion trip to learn more about the people and church in El Salvador.  Explore how we are linked to the people of Central America in the bonds of global solidarity.  Although one of the smallest Central American countries, El Salvador overflows with a vibrant culture and history.  Learn about the current realities and challenges facing Salvadorans.  Look back and pray at the sites of the martyrs who gave their lives witnessing God’s love during the civil war, including Blessed Oscar Romero and the four U.S. churchwomen.

– Pre-trip orientation

– On-site introduction to the cultural, economic, and political realities of El Salvador

– Walk in the footsteps of the martyrs of Central America, including Archbishop Romero, the U.S. Church Women and Jesuits at UCA

– Visit Maryknoll missionaries, hear their stories of working with the people of Central America and discover how their work in mission connects with yours

– Pastoral visits to homes and hospitals

– Meet the people El Salvador and listen to stories of hope and challenge

– Daily communal prayer, liturgies and theological reflection

– Visits to tourist and cultural sites

– Post-trip debriefing and reflection

– Credits for Continuing Education

Trip Details

– Participants are responsible for air travel to and from San Salvador (estimated $650)

– Passport required. (Visa not required)

2017 Summer Immersion Trip to El Paso/Juarez
July 19 – July 24 (for teachers) or December 8 – December 13 (for ministers)

 

bb3bba30-767d-4b29-86dd-6de5f993ed64Join us for a cross-cultural mission immersion trip on the border and put a human face to the immigration issues facing Mexico and the U.S. Explore the realities, complexities and inter-connectedness of these two cities joined at the hip.  See first-hand how economic and immigration policies affect people in Mexico as well as the United States and explore how we are linked together in the bonds of global solidarity. Two opportunities, one in July and one in December to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Immersion trip includes:

– Pre-trip orientation

– On-site introduction to the cultural, economic, and political realities of the border, led by local community and Pastoral leaders

– Seminars on the current realities and context of mission in Mexico and around the world

– Daily communal prayer, liturgies and theological reflection

– A look at the ministries of the Church in El Paso, including outreach within the El Paso Diocese and the Church of St. Patrick in the Canutillo Colonia and other programs for recent immigrants

– Visit, prayer, and reflection at the US side of the border fence

– Post-trip debriefing and reflection, including on how to incorporate the experience into your ministry

 Credits for Continuing Education

Estimated costs and travel particulars:

– Arrive on the afternoon/evening of July 19th

– Departure in the afternoon /evening of July 24th

– Accommodations at the Columban Mission Center, meals, and local transportation included in trip cost of $575 (estimated)

– Participants are responsible for air travel to and from El Paso, Texas airport

– Passport required to cross the border for the Mass at the Juarez Cathedral (Visa not required)

– $100 non-refundable deposit to hold reservation
